ABOUT BUSSDOR UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

Bussdor United Football Club

Established to formally groom budding talents in this sector of sports.

The club was founded by Mr. Oscar Igbokwe, President of Bussdor Group of Companies in 2001. The idea to form this club was conceived by the proprietor out of his keen interest in youth development. Having sponsored the 5 – a – side football tournament in the late 90′s, which attracted the active participation of youth all over the country, a decision was taken to formally groom budding talents in this sector of sports.

Following rigorous screening exercises, a “team” was formed to commence training, with a view to secure placement in the amateur League of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA).

Based on the impressive performances of the boys during the training, the President of the club who was desirous of retaining the household name “Bussdor”, registered the club with NFA in the year 2002.

The club participated in various competitions including the Rivers State Challenge Cup, Super League and several friendly matches. Although the club suffered some set-backs both at the State Challenge Cup and the finals of the Super League, both the Management and team of BUFC remained determined in their focus to excel to the next level. Bussdor United thereafter, took part in the 2002/2003 Amateur League, where they topped the Division 1B group with a total of 37 points.

The club has gained promotion from the Amateur Division One League to the Professional League having played a total of 200 matches both home and away.

The 2004 football season was quite challenging for Bussdor United. Despite being paired in the same group as veterans in the Nigerian Professional Football League, Bussdor exhibited that it is not how old, but how good a club is, that determines its performance.

Bussdor United maintained a stand in the first three positions of the league table. And at the end of week fifteen, Bussdor United, also known as BUFC, was leading the league table with a total of 30 points, having played 15 matches. Incidentally, one of the highest goal scorers so far for the Pro League 2004 is Gbolahan Dare of Bussdor FC.
